Jonghyun can control time but he can't control what happens

The Quiet World

By Jeffrey McDaniel
In an effort to get people to look
into each other’s eyes more,
and also to appease the mutes,
the government has decided
to allot each person exactly one hundred
and sixty-seven words, per day.

When the phone rings, I put it to my ear
without saying hello. In the restaurant
I point at chicken noodle soup.
I am adjusting well to the new way.

Late at night, I call my long distance lover,
proudly say I only used fifty-nine today.
I saved the rest for you.

When she doesn’t respond,
I know she’s used up all her words,
so I slowly whisper I love you
thirty-two and a third times.
After that, we just sit on the line
and listen to each other breathe.

Jonghyun loved to compose songs, loved to sing-- loved to blurt out random words to perfect the songs and melodies he has brewing in his head. But when the law was implemented, his world came crashing down.

There had been a huge uproar, the nation, each and everyone protesting about the law, because it wasn't fair, it was basically taking their freedom away from them. But the government did nothing to listen. The law was passed in 2013... and the nation chose to ignore it, believing that it was an absurdity and an act of nonsense but after just a year, it was finally approved and implemented in 2014.

One-hundered sixty seven words isn't enough, never enough. Each and one of the people has a word counter on their left wrist, indicating how much words they had left, ones it turns zero, their voices will just die down automatically-- technology these days can be scary. There are people who are not affected by the law, politicians, doctors, professors, people of the church, those who are part of the entertainment industry. And Jonghyun thinks it's all unfair. Some people took great lengths in removing it, stabbing their wrist with a knife or anything sharp, some die, since forcedly removing the device, triggers a switch that will inject a poisonous content to your bloodstream, a few succeed, being smart enough to rigged the system of the device but are later, arrested. It took three offenses, and by the third-- they cut their tongues, permanently, making them incapable to ever utter another word.

People questioned the government but they would give the same answer:

"It is an effort to get people to look
into each other’s eyes more,
and to also appease the mutes"

Jonghyun remembered saying all the things he wanted to say as if he was dying, the day the device was to be implemented to their wrists, he told his Mom he loved her dearly, told his sister that she annoys the hell out of him but still, he loves her, he told his best friend, Minho that he would always be one of the best things that ever happened to Jonghyun and told the rest of his friends and relatives that they were special through phone calls.

It's now 2016, and most of the people who were part of the revolt had given up, mostly because it was a loss battle with protesting outside the capitol building when they have no more words to shout and the fact that most of them were arrested and tortured too.

Jonghyun is twenty-two years old and two years has passed since the law but he still feels like his world is crashing down.

A/N: This story's continuation depends on the feedbacks. I'm not trying to force anyone into leaving a comment but I just wanna know if there are people who are willing to read this so I can continue it.

I was inspired by Jeffrey McDaniel's poem and just created a whole universe with it, it's still working in progress but I have the main plot and basics set up, I only have to write them down but I realized things while writing this:

First, this story's gonna fry my brains because I need to use math in this, for the 167 words per day thing.

Second, this is planned to be a revolution!AU, about politics and stuff, overthrowing the government, sh*t like that, since I was also inspired by The Hunger Games Novel as I was thinking about this.

Third, I'm starting another multi-chaptered fic when I still have one WIP multi-chaptered fic.

Also, if anyone wants a visual of how the device looks like, I basically ripped it off from the 'In Time' movie:

(just imagine it to be on the wrist instead and as a word counter, instead of a timer XD plus smaller)

Anyways, tell me what you guys think~ <3
